The 5 Pledges of an ADA Dentist

Posted .

Dr. Swensen and Dr. Balkins are proud to be members of the American Dental Association. Our patients truly appreciate the patient-first promise that they and other ADA dentists made as part of the association’s code of ethics. When a dentist joins the ADA, he or she makes five pledges in the ADA Principles of Ethics and Code of Personal Conduct. You can expect that our ADA dentists in Corvallis, Oregon, will:

Have Respect for Your Wants and Needs
ADA dentists recognize your right to be involved in treatment decisions. They also respect confidentiality and privacy. ADA dentists have a duty to put the patient first, to involve them in treatment planning, and to take the patient’s desires and goals into account, as long as those desires are good for the patient.

Do Good
ADA dentists provide high-quality, timely treatment and consider your needs and desires. ADA dentists see each patient as an individual and strives to do what is in their best interest. Treatment options are discussed until the dentist and patient can come to an agreement of what is best.

Do No Harm
It is the duty of our dentists to keep you safe and healthy. To do this, Drs. Swensen and Balkins will keep current with their education. This will help them to use the latest in dental techniques and technologies. In addition, our dentists will refer you to a specialist if necessary so that you can receive the best care possible.

Be Fair
ADA dentists pledge to provide dental care without prejudice or discrimination. Everyone is treated fairly.

Be Truthful
Your ADA dentists will form a relationship with you based on trust and honesty. Truthfulness in diagnosing and treating any dental issue is of utmost importance. Once you and our dentists have a trusting relationship, you can be partners in your dental health.
